opening: Friday, 24.02. 2017, 6 p.m
Awangarda Gallery BWA Wrocław
Wita Stwosza 32
designed by Łukasz Paluch
The presentation of selected works by Wanda Gołkowska, the first female student of the Wroclaw Academy of Fine Arts and, later, a long-term lecturer there, is not a death, it focuses on the topicality of the issues posed by Gołkowska’s works: most notably on her efforts to communicate with the viewer, recipient, and user of public space.
Gołkowska’s language of abstraction – a kind of artistic Esperanto – has received a new critical interpretation, while the values introduced by the project of post-war neo-avant-garde have become the subject of another debate. The projects and works of the author of Open systems are displayed in a space arrangement designed by renowned Wrocław-based designer Łukasz Paluch, for whom they provided original inspiration. In a dialogue with Gołkowska’s works, we will also see other pieces by young contemporary artists, for whom her art constitutes an important area of reference.
The exhibition opens 100 years of the Avant-garde in Poland celebrations at the BWA Wrocław.
